Discover SCUBA Diving

Our Discover SCUBA Diving Experience is perfect for those who do not have time to complete an entire PADI Open Water Course and for those who just wish to have a taste of diving.  The Discover Scuba Diving experience with us will include discussing some basic dive theory with your instructor, introduction to dive equipment and two boat dives. We will visit 2 different sites, the same dive sites that our certified divers enjoy so you'll know you are getting the best the Ningaloo Reef has to offer.

The D.S.D. course is suitable for everyone from 14 years old; those under 18 will need the written approval of a parent/guardian. You do need to have basic swimming ability.  

Diving medicals are not required to participate unless you have an indicator such as (but not limited to) asthma. A Padi DSD online Form will need to be completed at time of booking.

Advance bookings are essential for Discover Scuba Diving.  This includes the use of all the necessary equipment air fills, transfers from your in-town Exmouth accommodation and 2 boat dives.  We require a minimum of two participants to conduct our DSD program; in the unlikely event that we do not have a second person by 4:30pm the day before your scheduled date you will have two options: 1 – a full refund or 2 – you can pay an additional fee and have a private one-on-one session.  

CERTIFIED DIVERS We will need to view your Scuba Certification on the morning of the tour on pickup as you enter the Bus.

* Certified Divers must have a logged dive within the past 12 months to participate on our diving tours. If you do not have a recent dive, you'll need to complete a *Pool refresher with us before heading out on the ocean dives, or engage a private guide Booked in advance at an additional charge, for an 'On boat' *refresher

Surrounded by an abundance of coral gardens, rocky ledges and intriguing dive sites, the Outer Reef or Muiron Islands are located about 20nm north east or around the west of Exmouth. Keep your eyes open during the 75 minute trip across to the Islands for ospreys, shearwaters, turtles, manta rays, dolphins, and during their migration, humpback whales.

We have a wide range of dive sites with a maximum depth of 20m, with the top of the reef at 4 to 6m deep and usually only gentle currents. The dive sites around the Outer Reef or Muiron Islands are suitable for level 2 snorkelers (over Six years of age) and divers. Swim-throughs and ledges provide plenty of places to search for shrimps, nudibranchs, eels, juvenile angelfish and other timid creatures. In mid-water and against the reefs look for friendly potato cod, large rankin cod, turtles, nurse sharks, soft coral gardens, anemones, clams and 100's of darting, colourful reef fish. Late in the year, manta rays grace several of our dive sites, too. A medical Questionnaire must be answered before taking this tour. Please contact us for full details.

Snorkelling is in open ocean on coral atolls rising from various depths and reaching within  2 to 6M from the surface. before heading out on the ocean dives.

Refresher sessions are a simple review
of basic dive planning, equipment, theory and dive skills. These sessions
usually take 1.5-2 hours and include time in the pool, so you will need to wear
your bathers and bring a towel. We schedule our refreshers on demand.
Refreshers are held in the pool. 

If it has been more that 1 or 2 years or you are very unsure of you ability, you can take an Extended Pool refresher Session of up to 4hours.

If you are short on time you can do a 2 dive Refresher on the boat, either at Muiron Islands, or Ningaloo Reef  with your own private guide. Whaleshark & Whale Swimming Participants THIS TOUR IS - FOR GOOD SNORKELLERS ONLY! -  

We will Target either Humpback Whales or Whalesharks 

 Being wild animals every day is unique and our focus is on humpback whales, but the conditions and animal behaviours are not always just right enough to swim with humpback whales. We don't know until we get out there what will be accessible, how the whales behave or if there is a whaleshark. What we do know is that we will have small groups, our own plane and the best crew to get the best result possible on the day.

From July until October we are authorized to operate tours where guests may enter the water when the whales are relaxed, with a maximum of  group of 7 swimmers plus a guide & Videographer in the water at a time, while non-swimming guests observe the whales whilst the boat is manoeuvring as close as 75 meters! This is closer than any other whale watching cruise in Australia. This will give you a very special view for non-swimmers to enjoy the whales as they display their natural behaviours.

The swimmers, with the careful watch of their guide, will slide into the water and approach the Humpback Whale or whaleshark. We have strict distance guidelines and safety is paramount in these very special encounters. Swimmers can approach as close as 30 meters from the whale which will provide an excellent surface view of the animals and allow the swimmers to hear their beautiful songs. The whales are curious and are allowed to approach us within 15 metres giving us a unique close encounter.  Our dedicated spotter plane pilot personally talks via radio, to the in-water guide to ensure a great interaction.

Before entering the water near a whale or whaleshark, swimmers will be required to take a quick in water swimming assessment as required by our license conditions. Relax and enjoy the ride on one of our big stable boats as we travel from Exmouth Marina to cruise the Gulf waters.  Witness the whales from August thru Mid October in their natural habitat looking for Dolphins & Turtles too. Watch from our walk-around deck, with the back drop of the magnificent Cape Range at Sunset, whilst enjoying a complimentary glass of WA Bubbles!  With the BIGGEST a & Most STABLE Boats in Exmouth Your tour will have ample space to get the best view.

Please note that these tours begin when the Humpback whales make their way into the Exmouth Gulf area. This is generally in late July or Early August thru Mid October. Outside these times we run a Sunset Cruise on Demand.

Navy Pier

 For the Navy Pier, we'll do our best to get you on the double dive but cannot guarantee this due to the tide conditions and booking demands. With so many agents making bookings by email & phone, Your dive will not be confirmed until we send you an Order Confirmation. We require the full payment at the time of a tentative booking to try and secure you a spot, as they are very limited and  if there is only a single dive available we will refund you the difference.  Contact us prior to booking if you have any burning questions :) To book this dive, please select whether you need gear or not, enter your dive details and let us know your preferred dates.

The Navy Pier is a tidal dive site and some days we do two dives, others only one and each tour has a different start time based on what the tide is doing that day.  If there are 2 dives scheduled, the only option will be for 2 dives.

It is a great site and there are a few things to consider when booking on. It is a shore dive from a Pier and the entry is a giant stride from as high as three meters above the water surface. The exit is a three meter twenty degree ladder and divers must sign a waiver when booking to say they are physically capable of climbing the ladder with all their equipment on. At some periods of time Access will be limited to certain days ONLY with entry via a long beach walk & swim with equipment on your back. YOU MUST BE FIT.

You must also have logged a dive within the past 12 months to dive on the Navy Pier. If you haven’t done so you must do a refresher course.

With all other bookings we normally just collect a deposit but with the Navy Pier payment must be made in full when booking and sadly we cannot offer any discounts for you with the Pier dive if you book multiple tours. If you have your own equipment and only need tanks and weights the price is reduced by $10.

An additional $50 cash is also required for ENTRY on the day of the tour. 

You'll also MUST take your Passport or Australian Drivers license for ID on the day of your dive** NOTE, No ID = NO DIVE**.  This is on Defence Property and controlled by the Australian Federal Police

The Navy Pier is operated by Dive Ningaloo & they are the Licence holders for this tour.

Sit back for a cruise as we travel out to our various sites around the Ningaloo area. We get to snorkel with gorgeous colourful fish, corals, with opportune sightings of Turtles & much more! Then we often venture out to look for mantas or whales, during the season, from the deck of one of our big stable boats. Get ready for an added bonus of humpback Whale watching in Whale season. Equipment, and full lunch drinks and snacks are provided along with our professional in-water guides for extra safety.   Available March thru December, tide and weather dependent. 

Please Note - This Is NOT an Exclusive Snorkel Only Tour. There maybe scuba divers onboard too. Snorkelling is in open ocean on coral atolls rising from various depths and reaching within  2 to 6M from the surface. In some areas the entry from the boat will be in 12m deep water and will require a snorkel over to the shallower areas. The surface conditions can be choppy at times. Level 2 snorkelling

ADVANCED CERTIFIED DIVERS We will need to view your Scuba Certification on  the tour on pickup as you enter the Bus.

* Certified Divers must have Night Dived before and have logged dives within the past 12 months to participate on our diving tours. If you do not have a recent dive, you'll need to complete a *Pool refresher with us before heading out on the ocean dives, or engage a private guide Booked in advance at an additional charge, for an 'On boat' *refresher 

* POOL Refresher sessions prior to the tour date, are a simple review of basic dive planning, equipment, theory and dive skills. These sessions usually take 1.5-3 hours and include time in the pool, so you will need to wear your bathers and bring a towel. We schedule our refreshers on demand at additional charges.
